Study Abroad Funding

Study Abroad Funding

Paying for a study abroad program is usually the biggest hurdle for students. The best advice is to start planning early and create a special account for study abroad funds.

Financial Aid

Because Study Abroad is an academic program, like any other college academic program, finanical aid is available. Both loans and scholarships are available to students who qualify.

Study Abroad Financial Aid Opportunities:

AIFS program scholarship: AIFS offers a limited number of $500 Ambassador scholarships and $1000 Opportunity scholarship. For more information go to the following website: http://www.aifsabroad.com/scholarships.asp

The Benjamin Gilman Scholarship: The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program offers a competition for awards for study abroad for students who are receiving federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university. Award amounts vary, but can range up to $5,000.  Gilman scholarships require an approved "Follow On" project that must be approved by the Los Rios Study Abroad Director, Dr. Ellen Arden-Ogle. To apply for the on-line Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, visit the following web site: http://www.iie.org//programs/gilman
