US Dept of State Travel Alert
The U.S. State Department issued a travel alert advising U.S. citizens to be vigilant when travelling in Europe. The vendor that the Los Rios Study Abroad program uses is the American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) and they are very good at keeping our students aware and updated regarding all security issues. They have made students aware of the Travel Alert and reminded them about keeping AIFS informed of their whereabouts and plans for any out-of-London travel. The students themselves are very calm about the travel alert, but we want to take this opportunity to remind people of the following:· AIFS has 44 years of experience in the field of educational exchange
· AIFS offers a 24-hour emergency service—someone is always on duty in the US and abroad
· We employ professional, experienced, full-time staff in all our programme sites. The networks that they have established with local authorities, embassy personnel and the local police ensure that our programs are kept up to date with all local information. All students are told (and given instructions on how) to register with the local US embassy/consulate in their programme site
· AIFS has the financial history and stability to take care of students in the unlikely event that we need to react to an emergency situation. The safety of our students is our absolute priority.
