Teaching Anthropology in Community College Mentoring Program

The Cosumnes River College anthropology faculty is pleased to offer the Teaching Anthropology in Community College Mentoring program for individuals interested in obtaining hands-on anthropology teaching experience at the community college level.  This program provides unique opportunities for individuals with advanced degrees, or those pursuing advanced degrees in anthropology who would like to expand their teaching portfolio.  Our faculty provides one-on-one mentoring with each student in the following areas:

Understanding the community college student
Creation of syllabi
Lecturing style and presentation
Evaluation and rubrics
Distance education and course management systems
Working with the challenges and opportunities of the community college system
Our faculty also provide opportunities for guest lecturing and discussions of pedagogy and teaching strategies with others in the mentoring program.  Mentorships typically last from one to three semesters. By the conclusion of the mentoring program participants will have a more thorough understanding of teaching anthropology at the community college level, a set of strategies for course and student management, and an appreciation of the needs of our diverse student population.

Please note there is no salary or guarantee of future employment associated with the mentoring program. Participants will be matched with mentors that best suit their individual interests and needs.
