Football, Baseball 1973-1975

George Harper started playing football in 1969 while in the 9

After high school, George attended Cosumnes River College and played football and baseball for two seasons. In his first season playing defense for the Chiefs, George had seven interceptions, four against Valley Conference powerhouse Reedley College, setting a new conference record. For his efforts on the field, George was named to the

th grade at Cordova High School. He also competed in basketball and baseball at Cordova. His athletic prowess earned George many awards including: All-Delta League Football and Baseball Teams, 1972 Metropolitan All-Star Football Team, 1972 Superior California All-Star Football Team, 1973 Citizens Savings Athletic Foundation All-Northern California Baseball Team and the J.P. Edwards Outstanding Senior Athlete Award at Cordova High School. George graduated from Cordova in the spring of 1973.
All-Valley Conference Football First Team and he was selected as CRC’s Most Valuable Male Athlete for the 1973-74 academic year. He was also selected as the Sacramento Chapter of the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame’s, Community College Football Player of the year in 1974. As a sophomore, George picked off six more passes, ending his CRC career with a total of thirteen interceptions. George was once again a First Team All-Valley Conference selection in 1974 and the school’s Most Valuable Male Athlete for 1974-75. He was also named to Sacramento’s 14th Annual Hall of Fame, as the 1975 Outstanding Football Player. His coach, Coit Conant described George as, "A super intelligent player who is like having a coach on the field. He keeps everyone aware of the situation and in the right spot".

George not only stood out in football, but he excelled in the classroom as well. He ended his academic career at Cosumnes River College with an "A" in every class with the exception of one, where he received a "B". In the fall of 1973 George made the Dean’s High Honors list. In his remaining three semesters, he again made the Dean’s Highest Honors list. He graduated in 1975 with a GPA of 3.956 and transferred to UC Davis.

At UCD, George played two years of football and one year of baseball. In 1976, George was named the

All-Far West Conference Defensive Back. He graduated in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Physical Education and earned his teaching credential in 1978. He coached football and baseball at UC Davis for two years after he graduated.

George has been teaching Science at Jesuit High School in Sacramento for the past 27 years. George was the Defensive Coordinator at Jesuit for the first 24 years of his career (22 at the Varsity level), and is currently the Junior Varsity Golf Coach.

George lives in Sacramento with his wife of 32 years, Rebecca. Their son Chris, (29), is in the Army and has recently returned home from Afghanistan. Their daughter Maren, (26), played soccer at the University of Utah and graduated as the Valedictorian of the university. She was married recently and lives in Portland, Oregon.
