On Saturday, November 20th the 23rd ranked Cosumnes River College men’s soccer team (8-11-1) traveled to De Anza College to play the eighth ranked Dons (11-3-5) in the first round of playoffs. The Hawks played tough in the back and forth game. Freshman John McNerney scored for the Hawks and the game was tied 1-1 at the end of regulation. The Hawks and the Dons had to play 30 minutes of overtime. The game was still a back and forth battle as the end of extra minutes left the Hawks and the Dons still tied up 1-1. The game next went to penalty kicks where the Dons ended up besting the Hawks and winning the game to advance to the second round of playoffs.
The Hawks had a great season and we are all expecting great things from this young and talented team next year. GO HAWKS!!!

Azevedo and Hawks shut-out the Golden Eagles
The Cosumnes River College men's soccer team traveled to Lemoore, CA for a non-conference matchup with West Hills College. The Golden Eagles have an overall record of 8-5-3 and are ranked 4th in their Central Valley Conference. As the game began, both teams seemed evenly matched. After 80 minutes of play the game was deadlocked 0-0. In overtime, the Hawks kept their fans on the edge of their seats as they waited until the 97th minute to score the game winning goal. Cleavon Brown cut out a pass at midfield and after some nifty buildup with Saul Rubio (Calvine H.S.) and Said Ariaza (Woodland H.S.), a threw pass from Said to Alex Azevedo (Franklin H.S.) found the top of the box finishing up with a goal. Upsetting the Golden Eagles who are ranked 12th in State and 8th in Region was a big win for the Hawks who are ranked 14th in State and 10th in Region. With this win CRC's overall record is now 9-6-4. They will return to action this Friday when they host Modesto Jr. College, kick off at 3:00 PM.

Bear Cubs Edge Hawks
The Cosumnes River College men's soccer team hosted Santa Rosa Jr. College in their Big 7 Conference opener last Friday evening. The Hawks had just come off a stupendous game against Contra Costa College earlier in the week as they collected a 2-1 victory, but to the Bear Cubs that didn't matter. The teams came out on fire in the first half as they battled one another to a draw. In the second half, the Bear Cubs kicked their game up a notch and scored what would end up being the winning goal off an un-marked free header. The Hawks had opportunities to answer, but couldn't find a way to put one in. With this loss the team is now 5-3-2 overall and 0-1 in Conference. The team will continue conference play this Friday (9/2) as they travel down to Modesto Jr. College for a 2:00 PM show-down with the Pirates.

Colts Stampede Hawks
The Cosumnes River College men’s soccer team went on the road to Cañada College Tuesday (9/15) for their showdown with the Colts. The Hawks came out strong as they created many scoring opportunities but couldn’t convert on any of them. The Colts on the other hand had a very limited number of chances to score, though they took advantage of their opportunities. With about 20 minutes left in the 2nd half, Cañada took a free kick and blasted it to the back of the net taking the lead 1-0. That would be all the action for the rest of the game from either side as the Hawks were shutout for the 2nd time this season. With this loss the Hawks now have a 3-2-1 overall record. Hawks Place 2nd
9/5-6/09
The Hawks men's soccer squad hosted the Cosumnes Tournament this past weekend and took 2nd place. The event started Saturday at 11 AM when CRC took on Delta. It was a tough 1st half as neither team scored. Midway through the 2nd half the Hawks found back to back goals to take the lead 2-0, but they weren't done. The team struck one more time to extend the lead
3-0. Late in the game Delta scored off a penalty kick but still came up short as the Hawks held on to win 3-1. Our goals came from Chase Grant (Vacaville H.S.) who scored two and Saul Rubio (Calvine H.S.) who had one. In Game two that started at 4:00 PM, the Hawks took on Shasta College. It was CRC's dominating speed and power that blew away the Knights. The bleeding started right away as the Hawks went to work early in the first half and they didn't stop until the last horn rang. CRC won the game 8-0. Our goals came from: Chase Grant-2, Saul Rubio-2, Cleavon Brown (John F. Kennedy H.S.)-2, Said Ariaza (Woodland H.S.), and Evan Alcala (Sheldon H.S.). Since CRC had won both games they would be playing Yuba College for the Championship. Sunday morning at 11 AM the game started and the Hawks seemed to come out a little over confident. Yuba on the other hand came in to take care of business. They stayed sharp, organized, and persistent. The Forty-Niners took control in the first half 1-0 and never looked back. The Hawks fought, but it was not enough. Yuba tacked on one more goal in the 2nd half to won it 2-0. With the loss we came in 2nd place. CRC's overall record is now
2-1-1. The Hawks will return to action this Friday (9/11) when they host Delta College starting at 4:00 PM.

CRC Battles Hartnell to a Draw
The Cosumnes River College men's soccer team opened up the season on the road against Hartnell College. The Hawks opened last year with the Panthers and came up short losing 2-0. This year the Hawks tied 1-1. The lone goal for CRC came around the 20:00 mark in the 2nd half when Chase Grant carried the ball 30 yards then dumped it off to Saul Rubio who had done an internal overlap to Chase's left and then run on to the ball. Rubio’s first touch was between defenders as he exploded with the ball about five yards and then blasted it into the back of the net. The Panthers scored within the last five minutes on a corner kick to tie it up. CRC will continue this weekend as they host the Cosumnes Tournament. Their first game will be at 11 AM vs. Delta.

Fresno Rams Clip CRC Hawks in the First Round
Cosumnes River College men's soccer team traveled to Fresno College Saturday November 22 for the 1st Round of Regionals. This was the second time this season both teams had met. The first meeting left Fresno with a 1-0 edge. With both teams adrenaline flowing and with the stands filling the match began. The teams went full force at one another right from the start. Both teams attacked the goals and both teams' goalkeepers had many stops. CRC had a few chances to do some damage but instead it turned into missed opportunities. As the first half came to a close the score still remained 0-0. When the second half started, there were a couple of injuries that the referee had stopped the clock for. As the half continued, both teams stayed deadlocked at 0-0. With the minutes running down and the clock stopped at 2:00 (the ref's holding the official time) both coaches were sure they were going into overtime. With 2:00 stuck on the clock and both coaches looking at their watches, it seemed that well over 2:00 had past without a blown whistle. The coaches then realized that the prior injuries had stopped the clock and they were now in stoppage time. In stoppage time Fresno's Alex Gomez assisted Tyler McEowen who got in the box and stuck it into the back of the net. That was the only goal of the game and again the Fresno Ram's would sneak past the Hawks 1-0. Coach Preble after the game said this was the best game of the year for the Hawks. With this loss their season comes to an end with an overall record of 12-12.
End Of The Season Results:
Overall Record 12-12
Conference Record 4-4 (3rd)
State Rank: 24th
Regional Rank: 11th
