             2010 Cosumnes River College Hawks

CRC Women's Soccer

On Tuesday, November 23rd the Cosumnes River College women’s soccer team (13-4-5) traveled to Solano to play the #11 ranked Falcons (16-3-2) in the second round of playoffs.  Last year the Hawks knocked the #1 ranked Falcons out of the playoffs.  The Hawks and the Falcons met earlier in the year with the game ending in a 3-3 tie.  This match would be as exciting as the last two.  The Hawks and the Falcons battled in a back and forth game.  The Hawks freshman Amie Gillette made an excellent pass to assist fellow freshman Melissa Gomez on the goal.  Sophomore goal keeper Veronica Caballero allowed 0 goals scored and had 6 saves in 90 minutes of play.  The Hawks would hold on to win 1-0.

On Saturday, November 27th the Hawks (14-4-5) played the #1 ranked Santa Rosa Bear Cubs (16-0-5).  The Hawks and the Bear Cubs have previously met twice this season.  Both games ended in a tie.  This game would not end in a tie.  The Hawks battled tough, but came up short as the Bear Cubs went on to defeat the Hawks in a 3-0 game.

CONGRATULATIONS to the HAWKS for making it to the third round of playoffs!  You represented us well!

The Hawks are a very young and talented team and we expect great things from them next season.  GO HAWKS!!!

CRC Blanks Ventura College

Cosumnes River College women’s soccer team opened up the 1st Round of the State Tournament Friday morning taking on Ventura College.  The Pirates came into the game with a 19-3-1 record and had beaten Antelope Valley College, Santa Monica College, and San Bernardino Valley College in their Rounds of Playoffs.  They were ranked 4th in the State as they took on the Hawks who were ranked 11th in State and were on an 8 game winning streak.  The Hawks had mowed down Butte College, Santa Rosa College, and Solano College to get to the State Tournament.  As the game got underway CRC jumped on top with around 7:30 left in the 1st half as Dani Arrellano knocked in her 31st goal of the season.  Going into the locker room at halftime the score remained 1-0.  As the teams broke and the time started to run the Hawks continued to dominate and shut down Ventura.  Around the 10:00 mark Maddy Roberts found the back of the net extending the lead to 2-0.  Still hungry for more, Arrianna Fragoso booted one more past the Pirates goalkeeper to ensure the win.  As time expired Ventura was left stunned as the Hawks ran away with 3-0 victory.  With this win CRC has now advanced to the Championship Game in which will be held at 10:00 AM this Sunday when they take on Santiago Canyon College.   Santiago is ranked 1st in State and have a 22-0-2 record.

Hawks Hunt Wolverines

The Cosumnes River College women's soccer team took on Sierra College Tuesday afternoon.   Both teams came into the matchup on a three game winning streak with each squad looking to extend it to four.   The last time these two teams met up (10/16/2009) the game ended in a 1-1 tie.  Since then the Hawks have picked up their level of play, holding their opponents to one goal or less in each contest.  This game would prove to be no different as the hawks came out and scored 2 goals in the first half and then added 4 more in the second.  The team was firing on all cylinders and everyone got in on the action.  Scoring for the hawks nights scorers were Christiana Gomez (West Campus H.S.) for 2, Arrianna Fragoso (Sheldon H.S.) for 2, Dani Arrellano (Dixon H.S.), and Rebeca Gallo (Galt H.S.).  Head Coach Cesar Plasencia voiced his enthusiasm for the performance, "The team played great!"   Late in the 2nd half Sierra snuck one goal in to end the game with a final score of 6-1.  With this win the ladies extend their streak to four and will look to continue their journey this Thursday when they host Sacramento City College starting at 3:00 PM.

Hawks Step Up Their Game

The Cosumnes River College women's soccer team had a busy two days last Thursday (10/15) and Friday (10/16) as they went on the road and collected a win and a tie.  Due to the weather on Tuesday (10/13) the game was postponed and played at Delta Thursday which forced the hawks to play back to back conference games.  As the Hawks traveled to Delta they were fired up to take the field and came out strong scoring two in the first half and three goals in the 2nd half.  The night's scorers were:  Toni Fragoso (Sheldon H.S.)-2 goals, Amanda Sailors (Galt H.S.), Dani Arrellano (Dixon H.S.), and Nydia Ramos (Franklin H.S.).  The Hawks won with a final score of 5-0.
In Friday's matchup with the Sierra Wolverines, both goal keepers stayed perfect in first half as either team failed to find the back of the net.  As the second half started the Hawks jumped on top taking a 1-0 lead when Nydia Ramos (Franklin H.S.) took a shot and scored off of a rebound.  Later in the half the Wolverines found a way to claw their way back into the game tying it up   1-1.  As time expired the teams were deadlocked.  The Hawks overall record is now 6-4-2 and in Conference 2-3-1 (Tied for 5th).   The team will be back in action this Tuesday (10/20) when they travel to Sacramento City College, game time at 3:00 PM.

Vikings Noose Hawks

The Cosumnes River College women's soccer team hosted Diablo Valley College (6-3-0) Tuesday afternoon (10/6) and, despite valiant efforts, suffered their 3rd Conference loss in a row.  The Hawks played hard and kept battling, but couldn't find a way to match the Vikings attack.  The team's leading scorer, freshman Dani Arrellano (Dixon H.S.) scored the lone goal and picked up her 14th goal of the season.   The final score of the game was 2-1.  With this loss the team now falls to 4-4-1 overall and 0-3-0 in Conference.  The ladies will be back in action this Friday when they host American River College (4-2-1) at 3:30 PM.

Hawks Wounded

The Cosumnes River College women's soccer team hosted their conference opener Tuesday (9/29) evening against Santa Rosa Jr. College.   The game was very physical and intense.  Unfortunately the defending Conference Champions outplayed the Hawks and took at 2-1 victory.  The lone CRC goal came from the returning All-Conference/All-American  Nydia Ramos (Franklin H.S.).  Coach Plascencia was not pleased with the teams' performance on the night as they failed to step up to the challenge.  The team will continue Big 8 Conference play this Friday (10/2) when they head off to Modesto Jr. College to take on the Pirates at 1:30 PM.  With this loss the team is now 4-2-1 overall and 0-1 in Conference.

Hawks Clip Golden Eagles

The Hawks went on the road to Feather River College Tuesday September 15th and stunned the Golden Eagles with a late come from behind victory.   CRC came out strong from the start but couldn’t catch a break in finding the back of the net.  Feather River on the other hand jumped ahead 1-0 and had the lead until very late in the 2nd half.  Dani Arrellano (Dixon H.S.) found her groove again as she has scored at least one goal in the last 4 of 5 games.  Arrellano scored the first goal off an Amanda Sailors' (Galt H.S.) assist, and the second goal off of an Ashley Graham (Capital Christian H.S.) assist.  With this win the team is now 3-1-1.  They will be back in action this Friday when they host Los Medanos College, kick off at 3:30.

Hawks Keep Battling

The CRC women's soccer team left for a short trip down south to play a couple games and do some team bonding last week.  The team left early in the week to play Fresno (Tied 2-2) then continued their venture south to play College of the Canyons.  The ladies came out strong and beat the Cougars 5-3.  Dani Arrellano (Dixon H.S.) continued to dominate the Hawks offense as she accounted for 4 of the teams 5 goals.  Assisting Arrellano was Nydia Ramos (Franklin H.S.) and Erica Anguiano (Bishop Manogue Catholic H.S.).  Becky Gallo (Galt H.S.) scored the other CRC goal, assisted by Dani Arrellano.  After the team's win, they packed up and headed up to Disneyland.  The next day the team bonded at the theme park.   After all the fun was had, the team headed back to CRC as they were to take on Cerritos College, the defending State Champions.  The team was fresh, pumped up, and ready for the challenge.  Unfortunately despite all their hard work, the Falcon's shut down the Hawks offense and snuck 3 goals past their defense to win it 3-0.  This is the first time all season the Hawks have been shut out.   With this split, the Hawks overall record is now 2-1-1.  They will continue play this Tuesday (9/15) when they head to Feather River College for a 3:30 PM matchup.

Hawks Tangle with Rams

The CRC women's soccer team headed off to Fresno yesterday to take on the Ram's in a 4:00 showdown.  The Hawks went up 2-0 in the first half as Dani Arrellano (Dixon H.S.) hit the back of the net in an unassisted goal and later Bianco Palomera (Sheldon H.S.) scored off of Nydia Ramos (Franklin H.S.) assist.  In the second half CRC stayed quiet as Fresno started heating up.  The Ram's Sabrina Arietta and Megan Hinson both had a goal apiece to tie the game up 2-2.  CRC's Coach Cesar Plasencia said "I was unhappy about our 2nd half performance; we didn't play with heart."  Though the team tied, they were still disappointed as they thought they had the game in the bag.  The ladies will return to action this Friday (9/11) when they go on the road to play College of the Canyons.  Kick off in Santa Clarita will be at 2:00 PM.

Hawks Tackle 49'rs

The Cosumnes River College women's soccer for the Fifth straight year opened up their season victorious.  This past Saturday the Hawks shutout the Yuba College Forty-Niners 4-0.  CRC's Freshman Dani Arellano accounted for all four goals.  Coach Plasencia was very pleased with the opener and said that "Dani is a great finisher..., she took good shots and hammered the ball away."
The Hawks will continue this week when they go on the road to take on Cabrillo College this Thursday at 7:00 PM.

2009 Team Preview

The Cosumnes River College women’s soccer team is ready to get back in action.  Last year the team ended the season with a 16-6-5 overall record and finished 3rd in Conference, 2nd in Region, and 5th in State.   Though last year's squad made quite a mark  this year’s teams is looking to keep building off that foundation and take it to the next level.  The team consists of eight returners and 15 very talented rookies.  Coach Cesar Plasencia is very excited about this year for a couple reasons, first “It looks like we can have similar success as last year” and second being “All the Possibilities!!!”
The Hawks Team Goal for this year will be: To Win The Next Game.  The team focuses on one game at a time, yet never loses focus on the long term plans: Playoffs!   The team has hard workers, an abundance of potential, solid players, and an Intense Drive to get themselves to where they need to be.

3rd Round of Regionals
CRC vs. Modesto
Result:
CRC 0 Modesto 1

CRC Crossed Up by the Pirates

Cosumnes River College women's soccer team entered the 3rd Round of Regional's on a four game winning streak.  The Hawks had already downed Skyline in the 1st Round 3-1, Yuba in the 2nd Round 2-1 in overtime, and now would take on Modesto (Nov. 29) in the 3rd Round.    Throughout the whole post season the Hawks had home field advantage.  The Pirates and Hawks had met twice before this season; each collected one win a piece.  Both teams are from the Big 8 conference in which is rated one of the toughest conferences in the northern region.  As the game started, the Pirates got on top quickly.  Heidi Larsen (Foothills H.S.) dribbled up breaking down a few CRC defenders and slipping a through ball to Cassie Gause (Manteca H.S.) for the goal.  This is Gause 12th goal and Larsen's 7th assist on the season.  The rest of the half neither goal would see any action.  In the second half CRC would control the ball for the majority of the 45:00.  The Hawks took numerous shot but the Modesto goalkeeper had a phenomenal performance and didn’t let anything slip by her.  Despite many attempts, the Hawks just couldn't stick one through to the back of the net.  It was a very frustrating game for CRC, many times coming so close yet couldn’t catch a break.  As the time wound down and the buzzer sounded, the Num. 2 seated Hawks found themselves upset by the Num. 3 seated Pirates.  With this loss the CRC Hawks ended their season with a 16-6-5 record.

                                   End Of The Season Results:

Overall Record: 16-6-5
Conference Record : 7-3-4
State Rank:5th
Regional Rank: 2nd
Conference Standing: 3rd
