Cosumnes River becomes the only team in the North to reach the second round of the playoffs in each of the last 5 years. Quite an accomplishment, and shows the consistency of the program.

Diablo Valley defeated Cosumnes River (29-18) to knock the Hawks out of the palyoffs. In a seesaw battle the Hawks took a 6-5 lead into the 7th inning, but gave up 4 runs as DVC went on to defeat the Hawks 11-7.

Skyline pitcher Marcus Painter (9-3) took a no-hitter into the 6th as Skyline defeated Cosumnes River in the first game on Saturday to send the playoff series into a 3rd and deciding game.

Ty Tostenson homered in the 6th inning to break up Skyline's no-hitter and tie the deciding game 1-1. Brock Neil's walk-off single with no outs and runners on 1st and 3rd was the deciding blow for the Hawks. Patrick O'Rourke threw a strong 7 innings for Cosumnes River (28-15). Robby Richardson (2-1) threw 2 scoreless innings for the victory. The Hawks struggled all day offensively collecting only 7 hits in the 2 games.
Cosumnes River resumes play next Friday at a site to be determined.

Ray Hernandez (6-2) threw a complete game victory as Cosumnes River (27-14) won the opening game of the playoffs 7-3 against Skyline. AJ Nunez had 2 hits and hit a bases clearing double in the 4th inning to give the Hawks a 6-1 lead.Ty Tostenson and Bryce Miller had 2 hits for the Hawks.
The same 2 teams resume play tomorrow at 11:00 with a third game if necessary to follow.

AJ Nunez had 3 hits and 3 RBI and David Henderson hit a bases clearing triple, but it was not enough as the Cosumnes River (24-14 12-7) comeback fell short in the 9th inning. The Hawks rallied from a 9-2 deficit but fell short as American River won 10-9.
The Hawks remained a game up in second place.
Cosumnes River finishes its league schedule at DVC Tuesday and at home Thursday. The final game is Friday at home against Skyline.

David Freitas grand slam in the 3rd and Nick Cole's 2-run homer in the 8th helped Cosumnes River (22-13 10-6) to an 8-5 victory over Delta. Patrick O"Rourke (6-1) battled into the 8th inning despite allowing 11 hits in the game. Robby Richardson finished the game for his 8th save. David Henderson had 3 hits for the Hawks, including 2 doubles. The victory moved Cosumnes River--the 2nd ranked RPI team in the North into a tie for 2nd in the Big 8.

Hernandez threw 8 shutout innings, before the relief pitching and defense cost the Hawks the game. Sebastian Salas had a home run for the Hawks that gave them an early 2-0 lead.

Luis Matamoros hit a 3-run home run in the 9th to give Santa Rosa an 8-4 lead, but 3 walks and a hit batter with 0 outs got the Hawks back in the game. Ty Tostenson homered for CRC. After Brent Edwards run-scoring double in the 2nd, the Hawks failed to score again despite having runners on 1st and 3rd with 0 outs. Bryce Miller and Rooby Richardson held Delta to 3 runs in the loss.

The Hawks took advantage of first inning wildness to score 5 runs. Ty Tostenson's triple in the 4th drove in 2 as the Hawks took an 8-2 lead. Bryce Miller (3-1) earned the victory with 6 solid innings.

David Freitas and Brock Neil had RBI singles in the 10th inning as Cosumnes River (8-3) defeated Merced 5-3. Robby Richardson (1-0) threw 2 shutout innings to earn the win. Ray Hernandez threw 6 shutout innings after giving up a 3-run home-run in the 2nd inning and the Hawks rallied to tie the game in the 8th. Nick Cole had 4 hits to lead the Hawk offense.

Cosumnes River (6-1) swept two games from Shasta 11-0 and 19-4. Ray Hernandez (2-0) threw 6 shutout innings in the opener. David Freitas (3-4) homered and drove in 4 runs for the Hawks. Patrick O'Rourke also homered.
The Hawks collected 20 hits in the second game. Six players, Nick Cole Matt Gualco, David Freitas, Trevor Kowal, Kenny Zuella, and AJ Nunez each had 2 hits.

Cosumnes River (3-1) fell behind Chabot 7-0 after 2 innings. AJ Nunez 3-run home run in the 3rd got the Hawk offense going. The home run made it 3 consecutive games that Nunez homered. Still trailing 9-5 in the 8th, the Hawks scored 6 runs, climaxed by Brock Neil's grand slam home run. Cody Berger, Tanner Muckey, and Robby Richardson combined for 5 shutout innings to allow the Hawks to get back in the game. The victory allowed the Hawks to sweep the 3 games they played in the Bay Area.

AJ Nunez homered in his second consecutive game and drove in 4 runs, as Cosumnes River defeated Skyline 9-6 in 10 innings. Bryce Miller (1-0) allowed 2 hits in 4 and 2/3 innnings, and Tanner Muckey (S1) threw a shutout 10th for the Hawks. Matt Gualco and Brock Neil had 2 hits for the Hawks.

Cosumnes River won its 1st game behind the combined 4 hit pitching of Ray Hernandez and Robby Richardson. Kyle Foreman's 2 run single broke a 2-2 tie in the 6th, and Brock Neil (8th inning) and AJ Nunez (9th inning) added insurance runs with solo home runs.

Ranked 11th in Northern California, the Hawks have reached the playoffs in 9 of 10 years under Coach Tony Bloomfield, winning league titles in 2003, 2005, and 2006. CRC is one of only 4 teams in the North to reach the second round in each of the last 4 years. Ray Hernandez and Robbie Richardson return on the mound. David Freitas (C), AJ Nunez (OF), Nick Cole (OF), and Brent Edwards return as starting position players.

 

The Hawks resume play Friday at Ohlone against Diablo Valley College at 4:00.

Play continues Saturday and Sunday in the 4 team double elimination tourney with the winner going to State.
