2nd Place at CRC Invitational
The Cosumnes River College women's basketball team opened up their pre-season schedule at home as they hosted the CRC Invitational. Eight schools that attended the tournament; American River, Modesto, Yuba, Feather River, Hartnell, Redwoods, and Butte College. In the opener the Hawks took on Hartnell College. The team came out strong and put them away with a score of CRC 75 Hartnell 51. Ashlee Graham (Capital Christian H.S.) had 20 points and 8 rebounds and Charissa Murakami (Capital Christian) tacked on another 14 points as they led the team to victory. In the Semi-Final Game the team took on conference rival American River College. This was a fight all the way to the finish and into Overtime. The Hawks came together and dug deep to pull out a 75-72 victory. Ashley Graham led the way with 18 points and 4 assists, Kezzia Tragesser (Del Oro H.S.) had 13 points and 5 assists, and Shaquila Dixon (Valley H.S.) added 7 points and 13 rebounds. With this win the team was locked into the Championship Game where they were to face Butte College. Butte had shown to be very dominate at the tournament. The Hawks played their hearts out, but came up short losing 63-75. Ashlee Graham led the team again with 15 points, Charissa Murakami tacked on another 14, and Miranda Melliza (Laguna Creek H.S.) grabbed 15 rebounds. Head Coach Coral Sage had this to say, "The team played amazing! They showed so much heart and determination. All eight players played their hearts out. We are all very proud of them." With the loss the team took 2nd place on the weekend and started their season with a 2-1 overall record. The ladies will be back in action this Thursday as the team travels to Weed, CA to take on the College of the Siskiyous at 5 PM.
