About the Public Information Office

MISSION
The Public Information Office at Cosumnes River College manages the College's marketing, public relations and communications efforts to ensure the College effectively communicates with both its internal and external stakeholders. The office serves two primary functions: to build and maintain a positive image of CRC among its various constituencies and to assist in maintaining and building student enrollment.

Marketing
When you want your message to reach a specific population or when you want to promote a specific event or program, we can help. Please contact Kristie West about help in putting your event on the electronic marquee and/or the monitors in the admissions/cafeteria area. We can also help you communicate through flyers/posters how and what to say to your audience.

College Matters is produced by the Public Information Office two times a year. It goes out to 200,000+ homes in our service area in January and August, with a list of classes for the upcoming semester and student success stories. Also, anything new on campus the public might be interested in learning.

The President's Letter is produced by the Public Information Office twice a year. It is intended as an internal communications piece, but is also sent to numerous outside constituents. This publication highlights the college's successes and newsworthy items and is distributed in January and August.

Printing and Publications Development
Departmental brochures are designed in a standard format to all look like they come from the same institution. Information included in departmental brochures includes philosophy, description of the basic program, contact phone number, an information card, and 3-4 photos. We can help you put copy together, but we will rely on you to provide the "meat" of the narrative in the brochure. We can shoot photos for you or you can check our files for high quality, appropriate images. These brochures are printed in two colors -- black and another color, which is determined by division-- they are printed off campus.

Recruitment brochures can be more elaborate and some people may want to produce color pieces. There are other options besides a four-color project, however, and we can help you brainstorm some ideas.

Media Relations & Publicity
News releases
We have developed good relationships with the media in the area, and we have been fortunate to have them run most of the items we send them. But the rule of thumb is there is no guarantee. And we cannot tell them when or where to run the story. For that kind of control, you'll need to pay for advertising.

Please give us advance notice of an event so we can plan the publicity accordingly. We will write the news release in the format the media prefer, however, we ask for you to send us the details so we can put the information together. We also ask for a contact name and number to put on the release should the media have additional questions. Please understand that the media will not be able to run our event information if it is sent to them the day before the event. Give us a couple weeks to get the release to them so they have some time to get it in their publications.

Depending on the event, the Public Info Office sends news releases to the Sacramento Bee, Elk Grove/Laguna Citizen, Sacramento News & Review, KCRA, KXTV, KOVR, KTXL, KMAX, KFBK, KXJZ (KXPR), and the Associated Press. In addition to these organizations, if you have a specific person or organization you feel would be interested, we are happy to send to them as well.

Publicity
In addition to getting your event or program information out to the media, we encourage you to have the graphic designers create flyers/brochures and/or posters for you to post on campus.
The Public Information Office can post your event on the monitors in the admissions/cafeteria area, as well as the electronic marquee at each entrance to campus.

Table Banners
The Public Information Office has a total of 6 (six) table banners that can fit a 6' or 8' table. These can be borrowed for an event, but must be checked out in person. It is asked that food not be served from these banners, but if it is or if something spills on it, it be washed and returned as found.

CRC Logos
Should you need the CRC logo for a publication or presentation you are working on, please contact Kristie West to determine correct format for your specific project.
