Financial Aid

Steps to Apply for a Loan

Steps to Apply for a Federal Direct Loan

In order to complete the steps below you will need your PIN number, issued to you by the Department of Education (your FAFSA pin).

Step 1:
Complete Entrance Counseling on the Department of Education website.

Step 2:
Once your Financial Aid file has been reviewed and you have received an Award Letter or Award Notification email, you may log on to your financial aid account and complete the loan request.

Step 3:
Complete a Master Promissory Note at the Department of Education website. You do not need to submit a copy of the promissory note to us. We will receive notification that you have completed the promissory note. If you borrowed a loan during the 2010-2011 school year, you will NOT have to complete another Master Promissory Note.

Note:

Once we receive your loan request, we will determine how much you are eligible to borrow. Most students receive the entire amount they request. However, there are some factors which affect loan eligibility, such as financial need, year in school, and amount of previous borrowing.

When your loan has been processed you will receive an email from our office (see Loan Timeline).

If you have borrowed $20,000 or more in student loans, you will be required to complete a Debt Management Form and complete budget counseling. Once the Financial Aid Office receives your initial loan request, you will be notified if you have to complete the Debt Management process.
