Research Consultation Service
What is a Research Consultation Service?
It is a customized, one-on-one, uninterrupted research session with one of our experienced reference librarians. The average time for these consultations is about 30 minutes, depending on the complexity of your topic and research needs.
What can you expect from a research consultation?
Assistance in selecting the best resources for your research paper/project
Strategies for searching specific databases
Developing research strategies
Help searching the web for relevant and reliable information
Explanations on how to gain access to materials held in other libraries
How does the consultation service work?
In order to use the service, you should have a research topic for which you need assistance. You will have the opportunity to discuss your topic in-depth with a librarian, who will offer advice as to what library resources will aid you in research. We cannot actually do the research for you, but can advise you on choosing appropriate research resources, picking search terms and developing a search strategy. You will receive an email or phone call within 48 hours from a librarian to confirm the appointment after you fill out the appointment form. She/he will be working with you if the date/s you specified on the form has a conflict with the librarian’s schedule.
Who can use the research consultation service?
Research consultation is a service provided for students, staff and faculty of CRC.
When is the RCS available?
It is available by appointment usually during normal business hours. After you fill out the RCS Form, a librarian will contact you either by phone or email to confirm the date of the appointment. She/he will be working with you if the date/s you specified on the form has a conflict with the librarian’s schedule. Please allow 48 business hours notice when scheduling an appointment.
Where is the research consultation offered?
The confirmation of the meeting place will be indicated on the email or phone confirmation. It usually takes place within the main Library. Consultations may also occur in the Librarians’ offices.
Special note for instructors: Due to time and staffing constraints, we cannot accommodate entire class signing up for Research Consultation appointments. If your class needs assistance, please arrange for group Library instruction by contacting Rochelle Perez (firstname.lastname@example.org; x7629).
If you would like a quick response to a research question, ask the librarian at the Reference desk or call 691-7265.
