Research and data collection are an integral part of evaluating and improving the learning experience of Students at Cosumnes River College (CRC). That being said, in order to ensure the use of ethical research practices, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness provides oversight on all research projects involving human participants at CRC.
If you are planning on conducting research with human participants at CRC, you must submit a proposal for review by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness in the following circumstances:
Research in the federal regulatory sense, is “a systematic investigation that is designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.” This includes research development, testing, and evaluation that contributes to generalizable knowledge. If you are unsure about whether or not your project qualifies as research, or if you have questions about the proposal review process, please contact us at crc-research (at) crc [dot] losrios [dot] edu
Examples of research include: Surveys of students, investigations of the effectiveness of programs, demographic assessments, interviews with students etc.
