  • MESA Director Michael Carney attended the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) 2013 Project Awards Banquet last week in Sacramento. One of our former MESA students, Brent Ducker (now a junior in civil engineering at Sacramento State), won the Alfred R. Golze scholarship and invited Michael to attend the banquet with him.
  • Students Win Competition

Four CRC students were selected to attend NASA’s National Community College Aerospace Scholars (NCAS) program, which took place last week. Two of those students, Berenice Cervantes and Ivan Rodriguez, along with their team members, took home top prize in a competition to design their own mission to Mars. The students built a rover out of Legos and were given the task of seeing how many rocks their rover could pick up and if it could handle a rescue mission. Berenice and Ivan’s team designed the best rover for those tasks and along with working on a budget and putting together a presentation to "sell" their product to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab (JPL), won the competition. They each took home a backpack full of goodies for their effort and said being able to talk to engineers at NASA was priceless. Ivan is majoring in Civil Engineering and will transfer to Sac State in the fall and Berenice is an Aerospace Engineering major.
