How to Apply

How to Apply

CalWORKs Program:

Following the Steps to Success…

Step 1

Print out the CalWORKs Application (below) or pick up this form from our office. Complete the application, and attach:

  • A copy of Verification of Aid
  • A copy of transcripts from any other colleges you have attended (other than Los Rios)
  • A copy of assessment results

Submit your completed application and all of the above documents to the CalWORKs Office located in the Student Support Center L-106 bottom floor of the Library building.  The front desk staff will then schedule an appointment for you to attend the Cosumnes River College CalWORKs Orientation.

All First Time College Students are required to complete the "Steps to Success", which will ensure priority enrollment.

Step 2

If you have not yet completed the assessment process, take the placement tests for Math and English. All CalWORKs students are required to take the assessment tests. A copy of the assessment schedule is available in the Student Support Center, or you can go to http://www.crc.losrios.edu/services/Assessment to view the schedule online.

Also, begin the Financial Aid process by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), or you can go to FAFSA to complete the FAFSA.

Step 3

Complete the Cosumnes River College CalWORKs Orientation. During this orientation, the CalWORKs Student Personnel Assistant will:

  • Review the services available through our program
  • Review the supportive services that you are entitled to through the county
  • Advise you on the college registration process
  • Assist you with completing the county forms that you will need to submit to your caseworker

Step 4

Schedule an appointment to meet with the CalWORKs Counselor (can only be done after completing the CalWORKs Orientation). The CalWORKs Counselor will work with you to ensure that your educational and occupational goals meet the county's requirements, and will develop a Student Educational Plan with you that outlines how you will reach those goals. (Please note that all cases are reviewed individually based on the student’s case status with the county.)
