How to Prepare to Retake the Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) Exam

If you do not have a high school diploma or GED and would like to receive Federal Financial Aid (e.g., Pell Grants, student loans) you are required to take the Ability-to-Benefit (ATB) Exam. The ATB exam is a three part timed test consisting of language, reading, and math. We can help you prepare to retake it if you did not pass it.

If you would like to prepare to retake the ATB Test, the Tutoring Center can help:

  1. Drop off your ATB form with your name, phone number, and e-mail address at the front desk.
  2. Someone will contact you within a week to schedule an appointment. Please be aware that there is usually a waiting list.
  3. You will meet with a tutor for 2-3 fifty minute sessions per subject (English, Math, and Reading).
  4. Once you complete your sessions, the Tutoring Coordinator will sign your ATB form.
  5. Take your ATB form back to Assessment, located in L-106C.
