Absolutely. ESL students are welcome in the RWC. The ESL faculty recommends that second-language students wait until they reach ESLW 50 before signing up. ESL students in the levels before ESLW 50 should sign up for ESL 90.
No. There are eight ENGLB classes (ENGLB 70 and ENGLB 72 through 78), each of which may be taken for .5 or 1 unit; however, each class may be taken only once.
No. Enrollment in an ENGLB class is not automatic and is not related to enrollment in any other class.
During the fall and spring semesters, many English professors work in the RWC from 1 to 4 hours per week. Instructional assistants are on duty most hours the RWC is open. In addition to assisting students with their work, the IAs run the lab and take care of other lab matters: questions on lab procedures, trouble with a computer, and so on.
By checking the schedule, students can find out if and when their professors work in the RWC. This schedule changes every semster.
No appointments are necessary. As long as students enrolled in ENGLB 74 class and complete the appropriate orientations, they are free to come to the lab any time during the hours of operation.
Grammar resources and reading modules will be available for all students who enroll in an ENGLB course, but students can also find grammar information/exercises online. The Writing/Study Resources page features information on a number of quality sites. Similarly, students can find valuable information on improving their reading skills by visiting the Reading Resources page.
