RECR 320 Recreation Activity Leadership

  • Units:3
  • Hours:36 hours LEC; 54 hours LAB
  • Prerequisite:None.
  • Enrollment Limitation:Students must be in a paid or unpaid internship, volunteer position, or job related to recreation with a cooperating site supervisor. Students are advised to consult with the Kinesiology, Health and Athletics Department faculty to review specific certificate and degree work experience requirements.

This course will expose students to practical application and responsibilities within the field of sport and recreation management. They will have the opportunity to assist within the Cosumnes River College Kinesiology, Athletic’s and Dance Department on a variety of projects including marketing, game day management, sports information, fundraising and/or scheduling. Internship required and must be approved by instructor. This is a required course for obtaining a degree in Sports Management and Recreation.

Student Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

  • SLO#1 Identify barriers to recreation and recreations impact on society.
  • Benefits of recreation to society (mental, emotional, physical).
  • Barriers to include monetary, location, physical and emotional.
  • SLO#2 Identify aspects of an effective leader.
  • Apply effective leadership styles in the classroom and at work, with consideration to group dynamics, team and individual decision making, and workforce diversity.
  • SLO#3 Identify the different types of recreation.
  • Be able to explain the difference between commercial, outdoor and tourism recreation.
  • SLO#4 Learn how to manage a recreation program through on site work experience.
  • Behave responsibly at work, exhibiting initiative and self-management in situations where it is needed.
  • Behave professionally, ethically, and legally at work, consistent with applicable laws, regulations, and organizational norms.
