Music major, Marlon Blair is a recipient of the 2018-2019 Sacramento Saturday Club Scholarship. The Saturday Club, which has been in existence since 1893, has as its main goal the furthering of music in the greater Sacramento area, particularly in the form of scholarship awards to deserving students who will have the potential to become future cultural leaders in the community. Multiple scholarships are granted to students at Sacramento State and community colleges within the Sacramento area. As a winner of the prize, Mr. Blair will receive $500 and perform on a special recital, tomorrow February 23 at 7pm in Capistrano Concert Hall at Sacramento State. The concert is free and open to the public.
Music has played an important role in the life of Blair, both therapeutically and for enjoyment. He began his percussion study as a freshman at Cosumnes Oaks High School and soon pursued his dream of joining Drum Corps International in his junior year. From 2016 to 2018, he performed with the Sacramento Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps. Blair is currently a student of Jordan Shippy and is studying to be a percussion teacher and spread the art of music to young and developing musicians.
Mr. Blair will perform “Broken Silence” by Mark Glentworth from Vibraphone Suite No.1.
