Conducting your Own Research at CRC

Conducting your Own Research at CRC

Research and data collection are an integral part of evaluating and improving the learning experience of Students at Cosumnes River College (CRC). That being said, in order to ensure the use of ethical research practices, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness provides oversight on all research projects involving human participants at CRC.

If you are planning on conducting research with human participants at CRC, you must submit a proposal for review by the Office of Institutional Effectiveness in the following circumstances:

  1. Your research is part of a project that is independent of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness (a project of personal interest, a Ph.D. thesis, an external research agency/project, etc.)
  2. Your independent research will involve participants outside your classroom (e.g., a collegewide survey).

Research in the federal regulatory sense, is “a systematic investigation that is designed to develop or contribute to generalizable knowledge.” This includes research development, testing, and evaluation that contributes to generalizable knowledge. If you are unsure about whether or not your project qualifies as research, or if you have questions about the proposal review process, please contact us at crc-research (at) crc [dot] losrios [dot] edu

Examples of research include: Surveys of students, investigations of the effectiveness of programs, demographic assessments, interviews with students etc.

If your research qualifies for review please complete research proposal (link below) a and submit it to crc-research (at) crc [dot] losrios [dot] edu
