Peer Mentoring

Background
The CRC Peer Mentoring Project supports First Year Experience (FYE) current cohort of students as well as Puente Project, Umoja Diop Scholars, and DSPS students as they embark on their Cosumnes River College education. Although the project is open to any student from the previous mentioned projects who chooses to have a peer mentor, it is the purpose of this project to assist first-generation (first in the family to attend college) and disproportionately impacted students with their transition to college life.

History
This is the second year the Peer Mentorship Project is implemented as an opportunity for current CRC students. The Peer Mentor Project is intended to provide leadership, mentorship and support to first time freshmen students through peer mentoring and student retention activities.

Vision

  • To cultivate a dynamic relationships between mentees and mentors
  • To increase first-time freshmen involvement, retention and confidence at CRC by providing a supportive system
  • To present mentees with leadership opportunities
  • To offer mentees an opportunity to explore the resources and activities provided at CRC
  • To give mentees an opportunity to give back to future students as future Peer Mentors

Mission
Provide mentees an instant connection with a peer mentor who can offer a complete picture of campus life at CRC as well as providing support and opportunities to be successful at CRC and beyond.
