Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• SLO#1 PRODUCE AND COMPREHEND BASIC COURTESIES AND SIMPLE CONVERSATIONS IN HMONG.
• Understand short spoken dialogues and answer simple questions, such as greetings, identifying people, using numbers, telling time, days of the week, and weather descriptions.
• Respond orally using core vocabulary phrases and expressions.
• Incorporate basic learned materials, such as phrases and expressions, in daily life situations.
• SLO#2 DEMONSTRATE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN WRITING USING LEARNED GRAMMATICAL FORMS.
• Write and describe a list from materials read or heard.
• Write simple sentences about biographical information, telling time and calendar, and describing weather and activities.
• SLO#3 ANALYZE AND INTERPRET WRITTEN MATERIAL.
• Comprehend a reading selection based on familiar topics, such as greetings, biographical information, telling time and calendar, and describing weather and activities.

Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to:

• SLO #1: DEMONSTRATE INCREASED CONCEPTUAL UNDERSTANDING AND MORE SUSTAINED CONTROL OF LEARNED HIGH FREQUENCY EXPRESSIONS AND PHRASES IN CONVERSATION.
• Create short dialogs which include routine questions and answers about family relationships, travel and directions, college and career, food preparation, physical description and health. Produce speech intelligible to a sympathetic listener using broader vocabulary then in Hmong 401.
• Respond orally, give physical descriptions of people, places, and things, compare and contrast using core vocabulary phrases and expressions.
• Produce recognizable speech and utilize accurate and appropriate terms to initiate and maintain conversations in various settings like interacting with the family, asking for direction, expressing future plans and careers, and describing physical characteristics and common illnesses.
• SLO #2: DEMONSTRATE ABILITY TO COMMUNICATE IN WRITING USING LEARNED VOCABULARY AND GRAMMATICAL FORMS.
• Create short compositions to describe or summarize information based on written or oral materials using simple sentences. Writing will be intelligible to a sympathetic reader used to communicate with non-native speakers. It will consist of basic but broader vocabulary than that used at the HMONG 401 level and with increasing accuracy.
• Write simple and complex sentences to describe or compare and contrast family members, travel locations, directions, future career and plans, food preparation and eating habits, and physical characteristics and health.
• Write short poem using vocabulary learned in topics of health, career exploration, food, and family relationships to rhyme and explore Hmong poetry writing called “Paj Huam”
• Describe or summarize information based on written or oral materials using basic but broader vocabulary than that used at the Hmong 401 level and with increasing accuracy.
• SLO #3: DEMONSTRATE ABILITY TO COMPREHEND, INTERPRET, AND ANALYZE WRITTEN MATERIALS.
• Comprehend and analyze a reading selection, pose relevant questions, and reply to content questions based on learned topics, such as family relationship, travel and directions, future career and plans, food, physical characteristics and health.
• SLO#4: DISTINGUISH CULTURAL ELEMENTS OF THE HMONG-SPEAKING WORLD.
• Recognize the basic cultural values in a variety of situations, such as the use of appropriate pronouns to address family members and appropriate etiquettes during a family meal and cultural events/celebrations.
